While there have only been three jackpot winners in 2017, every draw gives away hundreds of thousands of prizes and it is not unusual for players to snap up large rewards at the first attempt. One Canadian woman recently became a millionaire after deciding to pick up a few entries whilst stopping for fuel across the border in Michigan.
Michelle Faysal and her husband were on their way to visit friends when they called in at the BP gas station at 15255 Hall Road in Macomb Township, and it turned out to be the perfect place to stop as they won $1 million in the Mega Millions draw on 18th July.
The lucky lady, from Ontario, said: “I like playing the lottery when I visit the States, but had never played Mega Millions before. The clerk explained the game to me and I bought five easy pick tickets. We were back in Canada when the drawing took place and I was overcome with joy when I saw I had won such a huge prize.” Michelle does not have any special plans for her winnings but she is looking forward to sharing some of the money with family.
The huge Mega Millions jackpot this weekend is likely to inspire many more players to see if they can enjoy the same sort of beginner’s luck. The odds of winning the jackpot will get longer from 31st October, when many of the Mega Millions rules will change, so it is a great time to try and win one of the biggest prizes in the game’s history.
Anyone who fancies winning a Mega Millions prize can take part by visiting an authorised retailer in any of the participating states or jurisdictions, or by choosing numbers online if you don’t fancy making a long trip like the couple from Canada. It promises to be a great weekend, with a $286 million jackpot also available in Powerball.
