EuroMillions Hits Record Jackpot of €220 Million

The EuroMillions jackpot cap has been triggered after the top prize hit €220 million, giving players the chance to win the biggest European lottery prize of all time and also creating larger payouts in the next highest tier.

The EuroMillions rules only allow for €220 million to be put up for grabs in the jackpot category. This limit was reached in the draw on Tuesday 12th October, so it can’t grow anymore.

Tickets are still being sold for the game at a really fast rate and the prize money raised that would usually go to the jackpot will instead be distributed to the players in the highest category where there is at least one winner.

Based on recent draws, there could be a prize pool in excess of €15 million for those players who match five main numbers and one of the two Lucky Stars.

The jackpot can stay at its maximum amount for five draws at the most. If nobody matches all the numbers in that fifth draw at €220 million, the top prize will roll down and be shared between players in the tier below.

Biggest European Jackpots

The record for the largest European jackpot has been rising gradually over the past couple of years. The bragging rights briefly belonged to a player in Italy’s SuperEnalotto, who won €209 million in August 2019.

EuroMillions then underwent a series of changes in early 2020, raising its own jackpot cap from €190 million to €200 million with an additional rule that it would be increased by €10 million each time the limit was reached.

A French player won €200 million in December 2020, and then just two months later a ticket holder from Switzerland won at the new cap of €210 million.

You can check out the latest results as soon as EuroMillions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday night.
