Florida Powerball Winners Revealed in Press Conference

The Florida winners of part of the largest-ever Powerball jackpot have revealed themselves to the public. Maureen Smith, 70, and her partner David Kaltschmidt, 55, of Melbourne Beach, claimed their share of the $1.58 billion prize on Wednesday, over a month after the draw had taken place on Wednesday 13th January.

The couple, who have been married over 35 years, opted to take a one-time lump sum, a staggering pre-tax total of $327.8 million, just like John and Lisa Robinson of Munford, Tennessee. The money was collected through the Nickel 95 Trust, which the couple set up to manage the haul.

The ticket was purchased at a local Publix grocery store, which Smith described as her second home. Her husband was the first to notice the pair’s win the morning after the draw on January 13th and admitted that they didn’t even inform their family of the joyous news: “I lost ten pounds. There was a lot of pacing at night,” Kaltschmidt confessed.

During a press conference held by the Florida Lottery, the couple were asked what they planned to do with their winnings: “I will be retiring,” Kaltschmidt announced. His wife, whose plans didn’t extend beyond getting a massage, said: "We have to think about it. I just know I want to help the special people in my life."

Now that the Florida pair have been revealed as the second set of Powerball winners, just one ticket remains unclaimed. Only the player that bought their ticket in Chino Hills, California has yet to be revealed, with no word from California Lottery officials as to whether or not someone has made a valid claim.
