Irish Lotto Jackpot Split Two Ways

Two Irish Lotto players transformed their lives in an instant on Saturday night as they shared one of the biggest jackpots in the game’s history. The top prize was worth €12.3 million, and both lucky ticket holders managed to match all six main numbers to win over €6.1 million each.

The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 17, 21, 22 and 28, with Bonus Ball 2. The jackpot-winning tickets were sold in the Topaz Service Station, Dublin Road, Athlone, and Mickey Joe’s Country Store, Umlagh, Carrigart, County Donegal.

Paula Keegan, the store manager for the Topaz Service Station, has expressed her delight at selling one of the winning tickets and is now looking forward to finding out whether the player is from the local area. She said: “This is the first time we have sold such a large winning ticket. This is a busy shop with lots of passing trade so while we would love if the winner was a local it is a possibility that the ticket was purchased by someone passing through.”

The latest jackpot came up just short of the biggest Irish Lotto prize of the year so far, which came on 1st March, when a Dublin syndicate scooped €12.8 million. A small piece of history was also made as it was the first time that the jackpot had been won by more than one player since changes to the game came into effect in September 2015. Two more numbers were added to the ball pool that month, which took the choice of numbers up to 47.

The winners have 90 days from the date of the draw to come forward and claim their money, while the jackpot will now reset to €2 million for Wednesday night’s draw and fans will be able to get involved by picking numbers online or going to authorised retailers in Ireland.
