Lotto 6/49 Jackpot of CA$64 Million Sets New Canadian Record

The biggest jackpot in Canadian lottery history was scooped on Saturday night as one ticket matched the winning numbers on Lotto 6/49. The entry was purchased in Mississauga, Ontario and is worth CA$64 million to the player or syndicate who selected the successful line.

The top prize had been steadily building since one lucky participant picked up CA$7 milion on Saturday 5th September, and the jackpot on offer at the weekend eclipsed the previous record of CA$63.4 million. On that occasion in April 2013, four players split the money to land over CA$15.8 million each.

Players across the country had rushed to buy tickets before Saturday night’s draw and there were eight players who matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to earn CA$116,915 each. A guaranteed prize of CA$1 million was also up for grabs and was snapped up by a ticket holder from Quebec.

It has been a momentous few weeks for lottery fans in Canada, after a new Lotto Max record of CA$60 million was also set on Friday 25th September. A syndicate of 12 Canadian Black Book workers from Markham in Toronto pocketed the magnificent prize, before revealing they all planned to carry on working.

The Lotto Max jackpot has already grown to CA$50 million ahead of this Friday’s draw following a run of three rollovers, while CA$5 million will be available on Lotto 6/49 on Wednesday night.
