Why September?

Of the 374 top prizes to be won since the lottery began in February 2004, 40 have been landed in September, with the month rivalled only by January (39).
As if that wasn’t enough reason to love the current month, the 30th of September is the day which has produced most jackpot winners, with eight ticket holders celebrating success. However, the bad news is that you will have to wait until 2022 to play EuroMillions on this date again.
September also comes up trumps when the number of jackpot winners in a specific month is taken into consideration. September’s dominance in the jackpot stakes could be down to the fact that three Superdraws have been held during the month. Started in 2007, Superdraws offer a guaranteed nine-figure jackpot and can be scheduled at random points throughout the year. The boosted prize usually encourages greater participation which, in turn, means it is more likely there will be a winner.
So far, 2017 has witnessed two of these special events, the latest of which took place on Friday 15th September.
